On the ridges of Nevada,
a hundred miles, waiting for someone who came from Yading.
In June 2024, Silangduoji stood at the start line of Western States for the first time.
We went to Yading first — Daocheng, Sichuan, where he grew up.
Mountains outside the window. Him inside. His grandmother poured butter tea.
The lens followed him from the highlands to the desert.
A hundred miles — every step farther from home,
and closer to himself.
He didn’t make the top ten.
But he ran out his whole self, every last breath,
and the answer we were looking for.
This trip wasn’t about the hundred miles.
It was about filming why he started.
“When you can’t run anymore, look back at the mountains you came from.”
